Lewis Hamilton is set to sign his contract “this week” - because Toto Wolff holds a fear at Mercedes. The Brit has been stalling over signing a £120m three-year deal with the F1 team he achieved a record-equalling seventh Drivers’ Championship with last year.
With the 36-year-old amassing £260m in wealth, he has the option to walk away from racing and pursue other ventures. But Eddie Jordan, who has been in motorsport for 30 years and is still connected in the industry, believes it will all come to an end soon because of team chief Wolff’s desire to have no distractions for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking to the PA Agency, the 72-year-old said: “I believe Lewis will be signed within a week. I cannot see it going into February.
