In the UK, the answer until recently was probably, “yes, swimming abroad.” Since pools require months of sun to be fully recreational, swimming in this country can feel like a bit of a stopgap.
In Los Angeles, where Godshall is based (his Terremoto co-partner Alain Peauroi is in San Francisco), it is hardly a novelty to swim in one’s backyard, although carefully considered pools (ones that don’t look incongruous with their surroundings) are less common.
