Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

A trailer for the new season confirms the Netflix show will focus on the early nineties and the breakdown of the marriage between a then-Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. The pair married in 1981 and the world thought it was witnessing a fairytale.
Fast-forward 11 years and two children later though, and the couple's marriage came crumbling down amidst rumours of infidelities.
After Charles, 73, became King following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September, a YouGov poll showed a big increase in his popularity — with nearly two thirds of respondents thinking he will make a good monarch, although The Times reports that Palace insiders fear that the new series of The Crown could "dampen enthusiasm." It was announced in 1992 that Charles and Diana would separate and they went to war with each other, both giving unprecedented press interviews, the likes of which had never been seen before in the monarchy.
