KFC has been accused of “slowly killing” customers with its new treat – an 80-piece bucket of popcorn chicken. The tub, which packs in 1,220 calories and more than six grams of salt, provoked outrage among health experts.

Paul Evans, of the British Obesity Forum, warned: “They are basically serving up obesity in a bucket and slowly killing their customers in the process.” Public Health England recommends Brits stick to 1,600 calories a day along with no more than six grams of salt.

Children aged seven to 10 should be limited to just five grams. The NHS warns that high-calorie and high-salt diets can raise blood pressure and increase the risk of strokes and heart disease.
