Gent and AEK Athens are both on the trail of St Mirren’s World Cup star Keanu Baccus. The young midfielder Baccus helped reach the knockout stages in Qatar by putting in a superb second-half performance in his country’s impressive 1-0 win over Denmark to set up a massive knockout clash against Argentina.
Despite the clash with Lionel Messi and co proving to be a step too far, the 24-year-old has caught the eye of European clubs with his World Cup exploits.
The Belgian side and the Greek outfit have both asked the Scottish Premiership side about Baccus. The South African-born player played in every game for the Socceroos and started the last 32 defeat to St Mirren, and manager Stephen Robinson is bracing himself for interest, although his club won’t sell unless the price is right.
Interest is not limited to European clubs, with several English Championship sides also monitoring the status of the Paisley standout.
