John Whaite confessed he “cried every day” during his Scottish retreat with his loving partner Paul Atkins after he finished filming Strictly Come Dancing.During Tuesday’s instalment of Steph’s Packed Lunch, the TV chef, 32, confessed he was depressed after the 19th series of the popular BBC One dance competition ended last month. The Strictly star made it all the way to the grand final with his professional partner Johannes Rabede where he was pipped to the post by EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and her Italian partner Giovanni Pernice.Following his whirlwind experience on the ballroom competition, the blonde hunk took a much-needed retreat with his loving boyfriend during the run up to Christmas to process the 14-week long series in peace. However, the Great British Bake Off winner revealed that taking a Scottish break in the wake of the series was the wrong thing to do as he “cried every day” during his retreat. He told viewers at home: "I went to Scotland after Strictly to live in a little cabin and get away from it all and I cried every day I was that depressed. "It was the wrong thing to do, from Strictly to the Scottish Highlands it was a bit much, a bit polarising." Steph sympathised: "Oh but it's gorgeous there, great to like [get away from everything]." Despite the winter wonderland scenery, the star still struggled to cope without the glitz and the glamour of Strictly life as he confessed how he wasn't ready to leave the show behind last month.

He went on: "But I wasn't ready. I loved it and I'd go again but after Strictly it was too much of a crash." Steph joked: "Maybe you just needed a glitter cannon in the corner to perk you up."It comes after the celebrity line up completed the first leg of the Strictly.
