JOEY ESSEX seems like the happy-go-lucky star from Towie – but a new BBC documentary will reveal that he is really a complex guy in turmoil.

It includes footage of psychotherapy sessions where the reality favourite opens his heart about the trauma of his mum, Tina, taking her own life when he was ten.

In the show, Joey Essex: Who Am I?, an expert reveals how, as an adult, he has created a series of personality “masks” to help him deal with the heartbreak he endured as a child.

The aim is to help the Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins contestant move forward with his life. Joey said: “This documentary is really close to my heart.
