The eight-day event marks the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Families and friends retell the liberation story at the Seder – a ritual feast held at the start of the annual holiday – and the food eaten symbolises the escape.
But for a second year, Jews will be celebrating their freedom under lockdown. The festival starts on the evening of Saturday (March 27), two days before the rules are relaxed to allow outdoor gatherings of six people or two households.
