Doctor Hilary qualified in 1976 at The Royal Free Hospital in London and worked for a year, in 1979, as a medical officer on the islands of Tristan da Cunha before becoming a GP for the oil industry in Shetland.
He then worked as a GP in Basingstoke in the early 80s before beginning a TV career in 1986, presenting educational programmes for British Medical TV.
It was then in 1989 that Hilary joined ITV’s breakfast show and stole the hearts of the nation. Since, he’s picked up nicknames including.
