The Cannes Film festival is back. Let the gorging on pictures of primped and corseted A-listers teetering along the Croisette in big hair and bigger jewellery commence.
Except I don’t think red carpets are the places to find genuine glamour these days. I know we all need a bit of sparkle sprinkled over our lives, but an actress who hasn’t eaten for three weeks trussed up in a blingy bandage dress, doesn’t quite do it.
Remember how Amanda Holden et al started posting pictures of themselves taking out the bins in cling-on sequins and heels in lockdown?
What those photos did, besides, perhaps, eliciting an appreciative chuckle, was to make many of the traditional tropes associated with glamour seem as modern as Barbara Cartland.
