John Christopher Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, singer, producer, and musician. He has been nominated for ten Golden Globe Awards, winning one for Best Actor for his performance of the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2008), and has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Actor, among other accolades. He is regarded as one of the world's biggest film stars. Depp made his film debut in the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, before rising to prominence as a teen idol on the television series 21 Jump Street (1987–1990). He had a supporting role in Oliver Stone's 1986 war film Platoon and played the title character in the 1990 romantic fantasy Edward Scissorhands.

High Court ruling in latest stage of Johnny Depp libel claim against The Sun

Parts of evidence from Amber Heard’s former personal assistant will be aired at the trial of her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s libel claim against The Sun newspaper.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star is suing the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN), and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over an April 2018 article that referred to the 56-year-old as a “wife-beater”.

The article related to allegations made against Mr Depp by actress Ms Heard, 34, that he was violent towards her during their marriage – which he strenuously denies.

During a UK High Court hearing last week, Mr Depp’s lawyers asked for the evidence of four additional witnesses – the actor’s former partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder, mechanic David Killackey and Ms
