A man claims he was kept in a police cell for four hours and feared he would spend years behind bars after the police suddenly knocked on his door.
Mike Burrows, 33, has told of his torment after being arrested on suspicion of being involved in a burglary in Farnworth in the early hours of August 12 - but that investigations later proved he was actually at home and asleep at the time.
He told the M.E.N that after police suddenly appeared at his door, his phone was taken off him and he was handcuffed before being taken to a cell for a number of hours.
Video footage played to him in his interview appeared to show his car with the same registration plate being used as a vehicle at the scene of the crime. However despite 'protesting his innocence', Mike says he was released on bail with conditions and was unable to go to work due to the stress and anxiety the ordeal had caused.
