The government has confirmed that schools will reopen next week as it pushes ahead with its controversial plan. It was earlier this month when the Prime Minister revealed his plan to get children back to school.
The phased return is to see certain year groups welcomed back first, with children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 prioritised as ' key transition years '.
Parents and teachers were told the reopening would depend on the transmission rate of coronavirus remaining low enough and that their final decision would ultimately be based on the science.
Now it has reviewed the evidence given by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) and says the country is meeting all five safety tests it set before easing lockdown.
