Some 6,943 cops are on GMP's payroll, an increase of 223 compared to the previous year, according to the latest figures. Extra government cash means a further 321 police officers will be recruited in the next few months, many of them replacing experienced cops who left GMP to join neighbouring forces, while extra council tax money will fund 150 more.
