Former political lobbyist Derek, 52, was admitted into hospital in March after contracting the virus, and weeks later he was moved into intensive care after his condition worsen.
With Kate Garraway sharing an update about her spouse's condition on Twitter on Thursday evening, Ben read out the tweets on Friday's GMB.
After playing a video of Kate, along with her two children, clapping for the NHS outside her house, presenter Ranvigh Singh said she was "moved" by Kate's emotional account about Derek's health.
