Today the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that more households will be receiving a £25 payment to help with energy costs after temperatures plummeted in recent days, with some postcodes receiving their third payment since November.
It comes after the UK experienced a freezing start to 2025, with snow and ice causing disruption across the country including school closures, roads closed and delays at airports.
Households who claim certain benefits are given extra cash during episodes of cold weather to help pay heating bills. Each year, between November and March, the DWP runs its Cold Weather Payment scheme.
When the temperature remains below 0C for seven consecutive days, people in affected postcode areas will receive a one-off £25 payment in their bank account.
