Fulham had previously held an interest in Fred before his switch to Turkish side Fenerbahce. The Express claims the Cottagers made a late lunge for McTominay on deadline day but were unable to agree terms with so little time of the window left.
McTominay has only played seven minutes this season but is expected to be used more when United begin their cup campaigns. The Academy product still has two years left on his deal, with an option for a further 12 months.
