Manchester United have retained their interest in Frenkie de Jong with Barcelona weighing up their finances, according to reports in Spain.
The Dutch midfielder has been consistently linked with a move to United ever since Erik ten Hag took over last summer. The Reds boss had identified central midfield as a priority position, with De Jong's technical quality fitting the profile he wanted.
United has agreed a fee with Barcelona for the midfielder but a transfer fell through amid an ongoing dispute between the player and his current club over deferred wages.
There were some reports this summer but Barca boss Xavi quickly poured cold water on any speculation. However, according to Fichajes, the Catalan club continue to struggle financially and are still exploring the possibility of selling their star.
