Former Renault F1 driver 'nearly overdosed kidney' by drinking mango smoothie in hospital

F1 driver Jolyon Palmer has opened up about a major health scare he suffered as a youngster which saw him lose a kidney.Palmer, now 31, competed in F1 in 2016 and 2017 for Renault before being dropped by the French team.

Since then he has carved out a successful media career, working with BBC 5 Live, F1TV and the sport’s official website.The son of businessman and former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, there was always a strong chance Jolyon would go into motorsport.

But his dreams of success were put on hold when he suffered a quad bike accident which left him in hospital.READ MORE: Jenson Button swore at F1 commentator David Croft ahead of title decider If that wasn’t bad enough, his body then had an adverse reaction to a mango smoothie his friends had brought him in hospital and he lost an organ as result.Palmer recalled the incident as he discussed Alex Albon’s health scare that saw the Williams driver suffer respiratory failure after having his appendix removed last month.
