Strictly's Kym Marsh, 46, was left so traumatised by the pain of losing a premature child that she chose to have an operation that she hoped would prevent her from giving birth ever again. The ex-Coronation Street star had also experienced distress after perceiving that the two children she already had when she first rose to fame might "hold her back" from being successful.

Kym opened up about the decision she made to opt for uterine ablation - a controversial op which destroys part of the uterus lining to intentionally prevent a woman from giving birth to children. The showbiz star made the life-altering decision after two traumatic experiences which made her feel she never wanted to be pregnant again. She first became a mum in her teens, and it is believed that there were no complications with her eldest two children, Emilie and David, who were born in 1995 and 1997.However, she heartbreakingly lost Archie - her son with Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas - in 2009, when the premature and vulnerable baby died just moments after being born. Two years later, the pair's daughter Polly was born, but Kym later candidly revealed that the odds had been against her survival, too.Kym struggled after she was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, a condition occuring "when your cervix is too weak to stay closed during pregnancy due to the extra weight of the baby".It can cause premature birth or miscarriage - and sure enough, Kym's second daughter arrived several weeks early. However, she survived, and a jubilant Kym described her to OK!

as "a little miracle... especially when I think of how it could’ve been!"Yet an alarmed Kym had discovered she'd been having contractions "constantly" from the 16-week mark onwards, leading her to worry any.
