Fisherman's 'magic' close encounter with shark as he avoids beast 'chomping' his leg

shark just metres away from shore on a deserted beach in Australia over the weekend. Arron Flanders filmed the beast during a trip to Woodgate Beach, in Queensland's Bundaberg region on Sunday and said the encounter was "magic".

The beach-goer who was walking along the sand at the time said he tried to get as close as he could to the shark, believed to be either a hammerhead or shovel nose shark, without getting a "chomp" on his leg.Despite being a fisherman, Flanders said he has never seen a shark in "such shallow waters" and thought his find was extraordinary.He said: “It looked like it was around 1.5 metres long although being on my own I wasn’t courageous enough to get in and have a closer look!“I didn’t want to risk a chomp on the leg!“Instead, I just grabbed my phone and started filming, following the shark along the beach for about 150 metres before the shark turned around.”Arron, who says he often visits Woodgate beach, said he hadn't seen a shark in the area for nearly a decade, reports Bundaberg Now“I've seen sharks locally at Woodgate beach as a young teenager but I haven't seen one on the esplanade for over nine years,” he said.He couldn't believe his luck and described the up close encounter as "wicked" while he shared his excitement online.“Look at how close he is, I could walk out and touch him, this is so magic," he added.
