A family have spoken of their nightmare ordeal after finding out their £4,000 holiday had been cancelled by text while waiting at the departure gate.

Steven Hession, 45, was supposed to be flying out to Kos from Manchester Airport on Saturday with his wife, Kerrie, and their two children for a family wedding, LancsLive reports.

After hours of delays and chaos, the family made it to the departure gate only to receive a text message from TUI informing them that their flight and holiday had been cancelled.

Mr Hession, a dad-of-two from Blackburn, said the family left home at around 11am and arrived at the airport half an hour later for their 3.25pm flight, but were greeted by long delays and queues stretching from one terminal to another.
