Prince Andrew might find himself packing his bags from the Royal Lodge if he doesn't keep up with the property's upkeep, a property expert has warned.
Recent snaps of the Windsor home have shown the exterior in a less than regal state, with visible mould, dodgy repair jobs and worrying structural cracks raising eyebrows after it was revealed that King Charles has cut off his brother's hefty £1million annual stipend. The Duke of York, who shares the residence with his former spouse Sarah Ferguson, has been on a 75-year lease since 2003, and despite already forking out millions on maintenance, The Sun reports he could be looking at an additional bill of around £400,000.Terry Fisher from We Buy Any Home suggests that while kicking Andrew out is "an unlikely and extreme outcome", it's not entirely off the table if he doesn't fulfil certain lease conditions. "The lease for Royal Lodge reportedly includes maintenance responsibilities, especially given the property's historic status," he said, reports the Express. "The Crown Estate would have a vested interest in ensuring that Royal Lodge remains in good condition, and failing to maintain the estate could give them grounds to review or even terminate the lease if it becomes a preservation risk. "In the case of severe neglect, the Crown Estate could argue that Andrew has breached the lease terms, leading to a formal review. "This could result in a range of outcomes: the lease could be renegotiated with stricter requirements or Andrew might be asked to vacate." Terry reiterated that eviction would likely be a last resort, especially given its potential political sensitivity, but it may be considered to protect the estate if Andrew's inability to maintain it becomes apparent over.
