If you’ve already bought the dress, add a contrasting jacket or coat and only remove them once everyone’s hit the dance floor and had a few drinks.
If you haven’t bought it, don’t. At least not specifically for this occasions. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear a white background with polka dots, stripes and so on.
It’s less clear cut with black. Traditionalists might balk, but black can look chic so long as it’s the right side of funereal.
