Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle, has spoken out about her character's recent breast cancer diagnosis, having the faulty BRCA2 gene, and the decision to have a double mastectomy. The storyline has left some fans worried that Lucy might be leaving the show, just like her on-screen mum Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) did during Super Soap Week after her own cancer diagnosis.
However, Lucy has reassured viewers that she has no plans to leave Emmerdale, saying she'd have to be forced to step away from the role as she said: "I'll stay as long as they'll have me." She told MyWeekly magazine: "I don't think I will ever make the decision to leave myself. They'll have to write me out, but even then they'd have to drag me out kicking and screaming!
I've got a job that I love and I'll stay as long as they'll have me." Lucy also shared how emotional it was to film such a significant storyline, admitting she ended up "welling up" over the scenes.
She said: "It is always daunting when someone trusts you with a storyline like this. I did feel a huge responsibility and all I hoped was that I could do it well.
