Emmerdale fans had tuned in to see tonight's episode at 7.30pm but were confronted with the nail-biting football match instead.
One wrote: "And there was me looking forward to #Emmerdale" while another tweeted: "Where emmerdale bloody football." The over-running football is also likely to have a knock-on effect on Coronation Street, which was due to air at 8pm.
However, several fans pointed out all episodes are available to watch in advance online. One tweeted the complaining fans: "It ain’t that deep tbf you could just watch today’s Emmerdale and Corrie.
