Edward Christopher Sheeran, MBE (born 17 February 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album, + (pronounced "plus"), was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified eight-times platinum in the UK.
The album contains the single "The A Team", which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John.
Ed Sheeran pulled off double duty tonight for his concert in Landover, Maryland. According to fans (via Entertainment Tonight), the 32-year-old musician explained that he was doing a stripped down, pre-show for the crowd as Khalid, who was supposed to open, was involved in a car accident. The pre-show set included tracks from his most recent album, - (Subtract). Ed also cracked a few jokes about playing during daylight hours versus the nighttime he usually does. “Usually when I start playing, it’s like pitch-black and now I get to see everyone.
It’s awesome,” he said. “This is pretty fun.” Ed then added, “I kind of feel like when you’re the main act, there’s a bunch of pressure because people have paid to see you but I feel like when you’re the opening act you’re sort of like, ‘Let’s have fun.
Let’s play songs.’” After a handful of more songs, Ed did confirm that Khalid would still be joining the tour in Boston.
