The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed a further 200,000 people are to receive a Cold Wather Payment following the recent freezing conditions.
Residents in 148 postcode areas - including 27 in Greater Manchester - will get the £25 payments after the Met Office confirmed that they endured subzero temperatures for seven consecutive days.
The payments are being made for the period between January 13 and 19. Other postcodes where payments will be made are parts of Suffolk, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Essex, Carlisle and Powys in Wales. So far more than 1.18 million Cold Weather Payments have now been triggered so far this winter - costing the DWP around £29.5 million.
