Thousands more people will get Cold Weather Payments from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) after more postcode areas were confirmed to have reached the threshold.
The DWP pays £25 to eligible households in England and Wales every time the temperatures falls below 0C for a period of seven consecutive days.
The extra cash is aimed at helping the most vulnerable people heat their homes during periods of extreme cold weather. On Thursday, the DWP confirmed that households in 51 areas would be getting payments, and today, the department has confirmed payments for a further 47 areas.
Nearly 150,000 households across the 47 new areas - which include parts of Wales, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, County Durham and Northumberland - are expected to get a payment.
