The freezing start to 2025 saw temperatures plummet to nearly -20C in parts of the UK. As a result, Cold Weather Payments have now been triggered across large parts of the country.

The payments, made by the Department of Work and Pensions, are issued to households on certain benefits during spells of extreme cold weather.

The £25 bonus aims to help people pay for heating and it is paid out when temperatures drop below 0C in an area for a period of seven consecutive days.

The list of benefits which receive the payments include Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit and Support for Mortgage Interest.
