Londoners braved the cold and highest levels of coronavirus restrictions to enjoy a New Year's Eve drink. People queued down the street in New Cross to get their hands on a frosty pint on a bitterly cold evening.

Mask wearing punters patiently waited their turn outside the White Hart, where a sign urged passersby to stop for a drink. It read 'Take away beer is a Tier 4 essential!

Come and have a pint.' Temperatures are forecast to drop to -3C in the Capital tonight. As of this morning a total of 44 million people, or 78% of the population of England, were living under the country's toughest restrictions.
