Fire crews rushed to the M60 anticlockwise between J13 A575 Walkden Road (Worsley) and J12 M62 (Eccles Interchange) to tackle the blaze at around 5pm on Tuesday (September 12).
The images, captured by a passer-by, show the terrifying fire that engulfed the tanker at the side of the road. Plumes of black smoke can be seen spiralling into the air after the explosion.

One lane remains closed to assist cleanup. It is not currently known whether anyone was injured in the incident. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
