'Do not drive' warning issued amid Manchester traffic chaos

Transport bosses have warned people not to drive into Manchester city centre this weekend with traffic expected to hit a 'peak'.

Multiple events taking place across the city, as well as huge volumes of Christmas shoppers flooding in, are expected to make for an exceptionally busy weekend in town.

Those planning to travel into the city centre are being asked to use the tram or one of the city's Park and Ride stations if they need to drive.

It comes after a traffic meltdown on Deansgate last weekend as some motorists began mounting pavements to try to get through, with videos circulating online of fights breaking out among motorists stuck in the jams.
