A "brave and dedicated" police officer has been shot dead at a south London police station by a man being detained in custody.
The officer died from his injuries in hospital after the shooting, which happened inside Croydon Custody Centre at 2.15am. A 23-year-old man who was being detained is in a critical condition with gunshot wounds after seemingly turning the weapon on himself.
Tributes have been paid to the victim, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying we "owe a huge debt" to officers who risk their lives every day.
