Cristiano Ronaldo might have never reached his potential if it wasn’t for Laszlo Boloni. The Royal Antwerp manager was in charge of Sporting between 2001 until 2003 and handed Ronaldo his first team debut at the age of just 17 years and six months.
The Portuguese youngster went on to join Manchester United for £17m before creating a legacy at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018, and has now scored 725 goals in 1002 professional appearances, winning six major European league titles and earning five Champions League winners medals.
Romanian coach Boloni has now opened up on why Ronaldo needed positional guidance during his first season with Sporting, in a switch that could have changed the youngster’s life.
