A British woman and her fiancé died after drinking contaminated limoncello in Vietnam, police have announced. Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and her partner Arno Els Quinton, 36, had gone out for dinner on Christmas Eve.

After heading home, the recently-engaged couple ordered two bottles of "homemade" limoncello from another restaurant. The pair woke up to the "the worst hangover ever" on Christmas Day, but tried to "sleep it off" rather than seek medical attention.

Tragically, the pair were both found dead in their rooms on Boxing Day, the Mirror reports. According to a source close to the family, Greta contacted her parents via WhatsApp on December 25, describing having "black spots" in her vision amid a terrible "hangover". "A local bar owner and a fantastic friend called over and wanted to take them to hospital but they refused.

Sadly I think it was too late by then," a source told The Times. The next day, Greta's body was found by staff at the Hoi An Silverbell Villa, while Arno was discovered in a nearby room.
