mirror.co.ukCoronation Street fans have launched an online petition in a bid to get fictional character Yasmeen Nazir out of jail. The character, played by Shelley King, is facing trial for attempting to murder her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe, portrayed by Ian Bartholomew, because she stabbed him in the neck with a broken bottle - but it was in self-defence after months of torment and abuse.
At the start of the month the abuse storyline took an even darker turn when Yasmeen was forced to defend herself against evil Geoff, who wielded a knife in front of her and threatened her.
However, after almost killing him, Geoff lied to police and said that Yasmeen attacked him unprovoked. If that wasn't enough, he claimed that she had done it before.
