Coronavirus lockdown is as bad for your health as smoking 15 fags a day, a top government adviser has warned. Studies have shown that social isolation can increase your risk of death by 30 per cent – similar to severe obesity, smoking, or alcoholism.

Behavioural scientist Professor Stephen Reicher is advising the government on when to lift lockdown. He warned: “The problem with lockdown is isolation; being cut off from people is bad for you psychologically and physically.
