A sharp drop in new coronavirus infections has seen Merseyside and Manchester's figures fall in line with the rest of England.

The latest figures from the government show cases of Covid-19 in the Liverpool City Region have halved since early October as successive restrictions have reduced transmission of the virus.

In the week up to November 6, there were 267 new cases per 100,000 residents in the region as a whole, compared to 540 new cases per 100,000 residents at the peak of the second wave on October 9.

With England’s national infection rate reaching 247 new cases per 100,000 residents in the same week, the city region is no longer among the country’s most infected areas, the Liverpool Echo reports.
