Cordons are in place with forensics at two scenes in Worsley after a man was left fighting for his life in an altercation. Police were called to the incident on Leigh Road at around 8.15pm on Sunday (December 15).

Officers later discovered a man, aged 44, with 'significant injuries' at nearby Irvine Avenue. He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

A 22-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody. Witnesses have told of how scenes remain in place two days later with forensic officers conducting investigations. This later led to the discovery of a man with significant injuries at Irvine Avenue. "One man, aged 22, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and still remains in custody.
