Cops find baby sucking on poo-covered dummy in stomach-churning neglect case

police officers attending a report of a domestic dispute found a baby “covered in faeces” and wrapped in a filthy, urine-soaked blanket according to one deputy at the scene.”The tot had a dummy in its mouth that was covered in human poo, according to an arrest report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.Police had been called to the address in Tampa, Florida, in response to a report that Doreen Wakefield had attacked her girlfriend in a drunken fight.A report says that Wakefield, 21, had beaten the other woman up in the early hours of Friday morning, shoving her through a door and hitting her repeatedly.According to reports, Wakefield had been holding the baby, which is less than a year old, during the altercation.When officers arrived shortly before 3am Wakefield appeared to be intoxicated, the police report states.After Wakefield was arrested, a sheriff’s deputy told local news site WFLA, the baby was discovered to be lying their own faeces “in a crib covered in faecal matter”.In an arrest report, deputy wrote that the baby was found to be sucking on a pacifier covered in faecal matter and was wrapped in a blanket soaked with urine and other human waste.Further investigation revealed that the baby had sores on its groin and thighs.

The deputy said the sores could either have been from chafing, or just from being left to lie in its own urine for some considerable time.A search of the property found no appropriate food for the infant, a police affidavit stated.Wakefield has been charged with neglect of a child and domestic battery.Under Florida state law, neglect of a child is considered a felony.
