The Coastguard had a record-breaking weekend of call-outs as the 35C heatwave sent Brits flocking to the beach. It is believed over 100,000 people hit the beaches of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole alone during the sunny weather.
But with the hot weather came a staggering 340 incidents the Coastguard attended on Saturday alone. A total of 146 people were rescued from waters across the country on Saturday.
The figures beat the previous record on Friday, August 1 when the Coastguard dealt with 329 incidents in one day. There were also a number of fatalities as people took to the coast, with one woman in her 30s pulled lifeless from the water after being caught out by the strong current at Waxham, Norfolk.
