The Italian, who spent time working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium has refused to rule his former side out of the race, despite their current form.
City have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions, and fell to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in their last outing.
It leaves the reigning champions in seventh place in the Premier League table, 12 points adrift of leaders Liverpool with Arne Slot’s men having a game in hand.
