Captain Sir Tom Moore's grieving family are leading a 'national clap' for the 100-year-old NHS fundraising hero. Boris Johnson said Captain Tom dedicated his life to serving others and encouraged people to join in the national applause in memory of him this evening.
Mr Johnson told the Commons: "We all now have the opportunity to show our appreciation for him and all that he stood for and believed in. "That is why I encourage everyone to join in a national clap for Captain Tom and all those health workers for whom he raised money at 6pm this evening." His family said they would be taking part.
A second clap is also being organised for Friday. Organiser Hannah Jayne-King from Cwmbran, South Wales, had already planned to honour the fundraiser
