Video shows Manchester's Canal Street has submerged under water as heavy downpours batter the region. The popular party street in the heart of the city's Gay Village is set to host a number of New Year's events tonight as revellers usher in the new year.

The footage taken by the Manchester Evening News shows the pedestrianised street covered in water as people aim to avoid the huge puddle.

It comes as four flood alerts are in place across the region, with further flood warnings expected. The Environment Agency has advised people to monitor the situation in their area closely on the government website.

There is a yellow weather warning in place for rain across most of Greater Manchester. However, some areas have been upgraded to an amber warning, including parts of Bolton, Bury, and Wigan.
