A burst water main that has caused chaos in Manchester city centre for several days has finally been fixed. The problem, which was linked to a burst on Portland Street, was first reported on Saturday morning (December 7).
It left several businesses without running water and forced three bars in the Gay Village to close their doors - all of which have now reopened.
However, Manchester Crown Court at Minshull Street remains shut with some cases transferred to Crown Square and to Bolton. New Century Hall was also forced to cancel a concert last night (December 9), but the venue has now confirmed its water supply is back. United Utilities confirmed this afternoon (December 10) that the work was completed at 3am. A bus stop on Portland Street remains closed with work to reinstate it is set to start this week.
