Bruce Spendley dead: Legendary PDC darts referee and announcer passes away aged 80

Sign up today for the best stories straight to your inboxLegendary darts referee Bruce Spendley has died at the age of 80.Spendley worked for two decades as a referee in televised events and as an official at darts tournaments before hanging up the marker and mic in 2013.Spendley had refereed in his first World Championship back in 1980 and his last match was the 2013 final between Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.A minute of applause was held in Spendley's memory before the start of Tuesday's Players Championship 14 in Milton Keynes."Bruce was a very popular and respected member of our staff and one of the most experienced referees ever in our sport," said PDC Chief Executive Matt.
