Katy Perry

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.

Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.

After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.

Bodies representing the UK’s directors, writers and actors have written to big tech firms challenging them for using their work to train generative AI models.

The Creators Rights Alliance (CRA) has today penned the letter, citing the need to “safeguard human creativity, truthful content and the rights of authors, creators, and performers.” The CRA represents more than 500,000 members of bodies and unions including those from Directors UK, the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain and British Equity, all of whom have been active in the artificial intelligence debate space of late.

The issue, according to the CRA, is the use of work protected by copyright in the development of operational AI models such as large language models.

In a nutshell, the alliance, amongst other things, wants big tech firms to pay creatives for this use or seek consent, and flags that UK law “does not allow copying for such purposes without the explicit consent of the creator,” in the letter that can be read in full below.
