The 31-year-old woman was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after emergency services were called to Bridgend on Wednesday night, WalesOnline reports.
The toddler was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he later died. On Thursday night South Wales Police confirmed a murder investigation had been launched with a 31-year-old woman arrested.
