Bolton Council has said that people in the borough need to 'pull together' over Christmas in order to avoid any further lockdowns.
Yesterday, Boris Johnson announced that plans to ease restrictions for five days over the festive period would have to be cancelled due to rising case numbers.
Residents in Greater Manchester, including Bolton, will now only be allowed to mix with family and friends from up to two other households on Christmas Day itself.
Responding to the announcement, Greater Manchester's only Conservative council leader David Greenhalgh said that the Government are 'damned if they bring in tougher restrictions and damned if they don't'.
